This stunning coffee is processed at the Ayla washing station, located just south of Shantawene village. Approximately 725 smallholder farmers harvest and deliver coffee to this station during the harvest period, all of which is harvested and quality controlled by hand, selecting only the ripest cherries.
This coffee is processed washed - so the cherries are quickly de-pulped, then thoroughly washed before being moved to raised beds where further hand sorting takes place as they routinely rotated and left to dry evenly.
The drying process takes 15-20 days depending on climate. Ayla washing station is owned by Testi Coffee which is a family-owned company founded by Faysel Abdosh in 2009.
Testi prides itself in continuously supporting it’s local communities through Project Direct. Project Direct mainly supports youth and the schooling system, building primary and high schools in the town of Homasho Borena whilst also providing kids with annual school supplies, but are also currently building an electrical plant in Shantawene Village.
